A word of appreciation or a simple thank you can do wonders for building relationships. A thank you is not just courtesy or good manners; it acknowledges and hence cherishes kindness. Here are some beautifully worded thank you quotes. Machiavelli s The Prince And Plato s Apology - 1697 Words

Machiavelli’s â€Å"The Prince† and Plato’s â€Å"Apology† Philosophers have unique and yet similar ways of interpreting life through a variety of different values and beliefs appointed to oneself. Some philosophers have the ability and courage to stand up to what they are trying to accomplish or for what they believe in, even if consequences follow their actions. Machiavelli and Plato have different perspectives and goals in their writing, however their stories also have some underlining similarities such as being non-Christian. This paper will be examining some of these similarities and differences that can be found in Machiavelli’s â€Å"Prince† and Plato’s â€Å"Apology† and which thoughts I would come to agree or disagree on. Machiavelli writes the ‘Prince’ while away in exile which by most people, is interpreted as his manual or guide on how to rule. It is quite clear that he demonstrates political interest an d advocacy in his work through the many stories of past rulers he shares as examples of what to do and what not to do. An example of a ruler who came from a lower position, meaning no riches or status, was Agathocles (son of a potter, who became the King of Syracuse) (Machiavelli [1532] 2006) which is similar to the status of the man Plato speaks of, Socrates. However, Machiavelli speaks for power politics and the importance of the ruler being in total control since â€Å"a wise prince should establish himself on that which is in his own control and not in that of others† ([1532]Show MoreRelatedSocrates And Niccolo Machiavelli1735 Words   |  7 PagesEssay 1: Socrates and Machiavelli Although Socrates and Niccolo Machiavelli lived in different time periods, the political climate that their philosophies were founded on were very similar. Impact Of The Brexit Party On Australia s Economy

Executive Summary This Business Report studies the impact of the Brexit vote in Europe on Australia’s economy. It examines the changes of the economic variables consumption expenditure, government spending, investment and net exports due to the arisen uncertainty by the recent events. Furthermore, an outlook is given on how these variables are expected to change over the next six months. Based on the findings that the economic variables are going to decrease, GDP is anticipated to drop to a lower level accordingly. It is therefore proposed that the Senior Management Team lowers the cash rate in order to facilitate the growth of Australia’s economic variables. Introduction The move of the government of the United Kingdom’s (UK) to vote†¦show more content†¦Uncertainty will subsequently reduce consumer confidence, which is a key indicator for personal expenditure (Lecture 2, 2016). Secondly, Koukoulas states that the retail sector is growing at a level below its potential, which affects consumption negatively. Furthermore, he highlights that Australians are reducing their loan balance, instead of spending it. Connecting the low consumption level to the labor market, Koukoulas points out that the low employment and wage level additionally enhance the reluctant spending behavior (Koukoulas, 2016). Lastly, recent data shows that after the announcement of Brexit around $50 billion value in shares had been lost on the Australian stock market (Thuy Ong, 2016). This has had enormous impact on the existing stock of wealth, which is another key indicator for personal expenditure (Lecture 2, 2016). Consumers are therefore going to spend less and, in turn, overall consumption is expected to decline. In summary, it can be stated that consumption spending has been affected negatively by the Brexit vote and will continue to drop in the next six months, as the causing circumstances are not expected to change in this period. Government Expenditure (G) The effect of Brexit will with no doubt cast problems to the already weakened Australian dollar and cause the government to realign its strategies over the short term unsettled conditions (Yahoo Finance, 2016; Farr, 2016). The Morality Of Animal Testing And Its Effect On The...

The Morality of Animal Testing and its Effect on the Biomedical and Consumer World Animal testing has been a controversial problem in today’s society and it affects people from all over the world1 not just animal activists or scientists. Most of the products and medicines used today have been tested on animals. These animals used in experiments have been thought to only benefit society but morally this hurts our society. This hurts our society because now animal testing has become a social normality and then humans have started to become null to this as time goes on. This slippery slope will only get worse if this is not stopped. This also hurts our society because scientist, physicians, and lawmakers must decide the justification for†¦show more content†¦Although animal testing is very beneficial in some biomedical experiments, animal testing for ordinary consumer products is unjust and unnecessary. Most humans in society have had a pet or animal companion and there are very few of those owners that would be willing to give up their beloved family member. It is hard to think about sacrificing a loved one just for a simple cosmetic or just another weight loss pill. Now the other side of this argument is when that animal could help the better of humanity like curing cancer or diabetes, where does one draw the line between just and unjust? There are many books and articles that explain the emotional aspect of animal testing. An important article that explores the answers of the previous questions is that of Cass Sunstein called â€Å"The Rights of Animals†. Cass R. Sunstein writes about domestic and wild animals, also how society had developed compassion for these animals by protecting their rights. Sunstein uses various arguments that are related to feelings and emotions. For example, in her beginning paragraphs she tries to relate to the reader and talks about domestic pets that are more like family members than they are pets. Sunstein uses emotion in order to show the reader that there is more to animals than just money and statistical value, people must now find what is morally correct. In her article Sunstein states â€Å"[A] full- grown horse or

Educational Policy Analysis Essay - 1944 Words

Educational policies are the rules, guidelines and or boundaries that have shaped my career as student, a teacher and most recently as an educational administrator. Throughout my career I have not questioned always questioned the reasons for the development of these policies. From the readings in this course, I have begun to examine the how and why of policy development and beginning to understand role the policy analysis has in the evaluation of educational policies over time. The role of the state, the role of the individual within the state, changes to political ideologies and the development of globalization have all directly impacted policy development and the directions that education has taken over the last century.†¦show more content†¦Ã¢â‚¬Å"A ‘What’s the problem?’ approach insists that it is crucial to reflect upon the representations offered by both those who describe something as a problem and by those who deny an issue problem status. Its purpose is to create a space to consider competing constructions of issues addressed in the policy process, and the ways in which these constructions leave other issues untouched.† (Bacchi, 1999, pg. 4) Throughout this paper, I will be comparing this approach to a number of more traditional approaches to educational policy analysis such as the rational comprehensive model, politically rational model (Bacchi, 1999), Critical Discourse Analysis (Thomas, 2004) and the effects of globalization through common world education culture and the globally structured agenda for education (Dale, 2000). Examining the strengths and weakness of these approaches as compared to the less traditional â€Å"what’s the problem?† approach, can help gain a clearer understanding of educational policy and therefore help us to be (hopefully) informed members of the policy making and implementation process. Simply defining policy is a plan of action, is a little too simplistic, the idea of policy must be explored at a greater depth if policy analysis is to have any real impact. Compare The Generic Codes And Conventions Of The Science Fiction Are Used In The Day The Earth Stood Still and Independence Day Essay Example For Students

Compare The Generic Codes And Conventions Of The Science Fiction Are Used In The Day The Earth Stood Still and Independence Day Essay The ways in which the generic codes the conventions of science fiction are used in The Day The Earth Stood Still and Independence Day are very different. The main factor is that both films were made in two different times. The Day The Earth Stood Still was made in 1951, so it doesnt have the massive amounts of special effects as in a film today and it is also in black and white. Independence Day was made in 1995 and in that time were a lot of action films being made with very high quality special effects. Both films have different ways of showing science fiction and both are based around the same narrative and that is that aliens attack the earth and try to take over it. The ways in which both films show how the alien comes in contact with the earth is very different. These are a few points that explain the differences. Firstly in every Sci-Fi film there is nearly always a space ship. In The Day The Earth Stood Still the spaceship is shown as being made of an unknown material that is unpenetrable. We will write a custom essay on Compare The Generic Codes And Conventions Of The Science Fiction Are Used In The Day The Earth Stood Still and Independence Day specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Another thing is that when the spaceship opens and closes there are no hinges or anything to show the entrance, it is almost like it is one whole body. The spaceship is also quite small and unconvincing to todays standards. Independence Day shows the space ship as being very big, almost so big that it covers the sunlight. It however doesnt have an unpenetrable outer material but instead has a shield. This maybe implicates that the aliens have also evolved their technology. Another thing is that you dont ever see the ship open up while in the Earths atmosphere, instead it has small defender spaceships that are very fast. To todays standards this is more convincing. As many blockbuster films Independence Day is based upon a B movie, that is a movie that was made a long time ago and has the same narrative. In this case The Day The Earth Stood Still is the B movie that has low production values and depends upon the basics of a sci-fi film. However, Independence Day is an A movie that has high production values and also uses lots of special effects. In Independence Day because the are a lot of special effects, the shoots are sometimes played longer to add effect and to also show the audience how the special effects were used. A good example of this is at the beginning of Independence Day when the large mother ship is first introduced. The aliens in The Day The Earth Stood Still were very plain, as the alien was first introduced he was wearing a very odd looking helmet, that looks very plain. He is named Klaatu. He also says nothing. A robot called Gort accompanies him; he has a special laser that blows up everything. It seems to walk in a very odd fashion. Klaatu also has the powers to command Gort. The alien in The Day The Earth Stood Still looks as a normal human but he is very tall, he is probably very tall to show that he has superior intelligence and so people look up to him. He also knows how to speak English. He says that where he comes from they have picked up the English language. In Independence Day the aliens are based on the typical stereotype that is slimy, with tentacles and looks almost deformed. These aliens however do not speak English but can talk through a human by wrapping their tentacles around a human and talking via them. This is another thing to show how advance the aliens are. The ideology of both films is that in The Day The Earth Stood Still the ideas are that the alien is a hazard, they think this because as soon as it came out of the spaceship it had Gort its sidekick attack everyone that would be likely to attack him. Then Klaatu gets shot at; from then on he is almost put into quarantine and is locked in a room. .uc41d1e4f98952a9c24a92b54b8273a9d , .uc41d1e4f98952a9c24a92b54b8273a9d .postImageUrl , .uc41d1e4f98952a9c24a92b54b8273a9d .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uc41d1e4f98952a9c24a92b54b8273a9d , .uc41d1e4f98952a9c24a92b54b8273a9d:hover , .uc41d1e4f98952a9c24a92b54b8273a9d:visited , .uc41d1e4f98952a9c24a92b54b8273a9d:active { border:0!important; } .uc41d1e4f98952a9c24a92b54b8273a9d .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uc41d1e4f98952a9c24a92b54b8273a9d { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uc41d1e4f98952a9c24a92b54b8273a9d:active , .uc41d1e4f98952a9c24a92b54b8273a9d:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uc41d1e4f98952a9c24a92b54b8273a9d .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uc41d1e4f98952a9c24a92b54b8273a9d .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uc41d1e4f98952a9c24a92b54b8273a9d .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uc41d1e4f98952a9c24a92b54b8273a9d .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uc41d1e4f98952a9c24a92b54b8273a9d:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uc41d1e4f98952a9c24a92b54b8273a9d .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uc41d1e4f98952a9c24a92b54b8273a9d .uc41d1e4f98952a9c24a92b54b8273a9d-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uc41d1e4f98952a9c24a92b54b8273a9d:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Of Mice And Men Essay SummaryKlaatu demands to see the president of America. Instead he meets with the presidents secretary; they talk about what will happen if Earth carries on doing what it is doing. It is almost like the alien world is warning Earth that if we dont stop what we are doing then we will end up killing ourselves. The film was made in 1951, that was 6 years after the war had ended that had an effect on the film as well. Klaatu was like a messenger from the alien world to tell Earth that if nuclear power would be used then the aliens would have to act upon Earth. The message is basically that the alien world and Earth needs to co-operate so there is no conflict. The ideology in Independence Day is based around America and almost says that the whole world has to follow America because it is the leader and it dominates Earth. It is also about American patriotism and that if we join with America then we will win against the alien threat. The date that is used is July 4th, that happens to be the American Independence Day. The communication between humans and the aliens is very different as well. In The Day The Earth Stood Still everything electrical stops including cars. In Independence Day humans make the first move. Captain Steven Eagle Hiller played by Will Smith makes first contact and he take the alien back to Area 51. There a scientist for no reason operates on the alien to find out how its body differs to ours. Then they find out that the alien isnt dead then it kills people and communicates with president of America via the scientist. If you compare both films then you would find out that there isnt much of a difference because they have the same narrative and very similar characters. In The Day The Earth Stood Still there isnt a hero as such but there is a woman called Helen Benson Patricia Neal who was the first person to discover that Klaatu Michael Rennie is the alien and by the end of the film she sticks up for him. In Independence Day there are two heroes, Captain Steven Eagle Hiller Will Smith and David Levinson Jeff Goldblum. They both directly eliminate the alien attack and both get praised for it. In both films there also a scientist type person. In The Day The Earth Stood Still the scientist is called Professor Jacob Barnhardt Sam Jaffe he is stuck on large equation and Klaatu helps him. Then Professor Bardhardt calls for a meeting with Klaatu and with many other Scientists. In Independence Day the scientist has outrageous hair; this is stereotyping scientists in both films. The Day The Earth Stood Still is more serious about the alien attack and does not have action but Independence Day has a lot of action, special effects and a little comedy and remains serious about the aliens. The taglines of the films are that in The Day The Earth Stood Still the aliens come as a warning, in Independence Day the tagline is that the aliens will do anything to destroy Earth and that we only have ourselves to blame. One major difference between both films is that Independence Day has a larger budget at the time it was made there were a lot of computer graphics in the film, these almost help the film to be more believable to the audience. Whereas The Day The Earth Stood Still was made in 1951, that was 45 years before so of course the special effects wouldnt be as good as a film made today.
